Security leaders are still debating whether AI will spawn an entirely new class of cyberattack, but the more immediate shift is subtler and already here: AI has made a failed attack cheap to retry.

The routine scenario looks like this. An attacker lands on a low-privilege cloud account, and the first attempt at privilege escalation goes nowhere. That dead end used to cost hours of reading documentation and manual effort. With AI in the picture, retrying is fast and nearly free, which changes the economics of an intrusion far more than any exotic new technique.

For defenders, the practical takeaway is that volume and repetition, not novelty, are the growing problem. The article's framing suggests the SOC does not need to rebuild its entire approach for every alert, even as attackers iterate more quickly.

Does the rise of cheap retries change how your team triages repeated failed escalation attempts in cloud environments?
