The U.S. Department of Justice has announced the court-authorized seizure of internet domains tied to a DDoS-for-hire service known as NightmareStresser. The domains seized are:

    • nightmare-stresser[.]com
    • nightmarestresser[.]org

Visitors to both sites are now met with a seizure banner confirming the domains have been taken over by authorities. According to the DoJ, the service has been linked to hundreds of thousands of DDoS attacks.

This action is part of the ongoing effort by U.S. law enforcement to disrupt booter and stresser platforms that allow users to rent attack capability. The seizure of the front-end domains is a public-facing blow to the operation, though it remains to be seen whether the underlying infrastructure or operators will be pursued further.

So far, no specific CVE ID, advisory number, or affected software version has been mentioned in connection with this case. The action focuses on the domain infrastructure rather than a software vulnerability.

If your organization monitors for DDoS-related threats, it is worth checking whether any internal traffic or log entries reference these domains. Blocking them at the DNS or proxy level may help reduce exposure to related activity.

Do you think domain seizures like this meaningfully disrupt DDoS-for-hire services, or do operators simply shift to new domains?
