The Pakistan-aligned threat group tracked as Transparent Tribe (also known as APT36 and Earth Karkaddan) has been linked to a new wave of attacks targeting government and defense entities in India and Afghanistan. According to Zscaler ThreatLabz, the campaign involves previously undocumented tooling, with the activity codenamed Operation in the research.

The intrusions introduce four new tools:

    • RUSTYSHADE — a Rust-based backdoor
    • RUSTYMOVE
    • PSNATCH
    • BASHNATCH

A notable technique in this campaign is the use of private GitHub repositories for command-and-control (C2), a method that helps the operators blend malicious traffic with legitimate developer infrastructure.

Has anyone seen signs of these tools or GitHub-based C2 activity in their environment, and how are you detecting it?
